Many juniors are fretting over the ticket price, the administration’s enforcement of rules, and rumors surrounding prom; however, junior class advisers believe attendees will have a great experience at the event on April 30.

Every year prom causes student anxiety, but due to the changes this year such as the increased ticket price, prom stress seems to be heightened. The ticket price increase from 65 dollars to 70 dollars is a major topic of discussion this year. Much of the junior class is upset that the ticket price was raised from last year.

“I find it unfair to ask students in high school to pay 70 dollars for prom especially when students also have to pay for their date’s expenses as well,” junior Shawn Sullivan said.

According to junior class adviser Shawn Staines, with the new additions to the event such as new entertainment, the price had to be raised to pay for expenses. Staines, however, believes that the event is worth the money.

“For several years tickets have been 65 dollars, but this year students can expect a more enhanced experience,” Staines said.

According to junior class adviser Brittany Burns, there is much to look forward to this year.

“We have a new professional entertainment company coming this year,” Burns said. “There are going to be lots of new foods at post prom this year as well.”

Students also seem to be disgruntled about the prom policies. Some juniors are upset that they can’t bring a student who has graduated high school to prom.

Junior Kat Harvey, who is currently dating a college student is facing a dilemma due to this policy.

“In past years students have been allowed to take college students to prom and this is the first year they have changed the rules,” Harvey said.

Although there was no actual policy change this year, according to the junior class advisers the rules are being more strictly enforced. By communicating the rules on paper the administration presented what is acceptable in a more clear-cut way than in years before.

Many juniors are anxious about the event. However, according to Staines, this time of year for juniors is always stressful.

“There is lots of excitement and anxiety because it’s a busy time of the year with AP exams and college visits,” Staines said.

According to Burns, the post prom venue change caused stress, and there were rumors that post prom would be cancelled all together.

Other rumors have been stressing out some members of the junior class as well.

“Everyone is upset because there are rumors of increased security at post prom,” steering committee member Jack Shaw said. “Everyone is worried about getting breathalyzed.”

Apart from the stress however, students still seem to be looking forward to the big event.

“Prom is stressful every year,” junior Alex Martin said. “But I know everyone will have a great time.”
