Senior Sunkamal Singh harnessed creativity and problem solving skills to create a solution to students’ studying challenges with his Serene Study Space digital dashboard.
Singh has been interested in math and engineering since childhood, but as time passed, his interest moved toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) and entrepreneurship. These interests converged when he took the Entrepreneurship elective taught by Applied Arts and Technology teacher Jonathan Cahill in his junior year. Singh wanted to help students study more effectively using AI, but he knew convincing a high school to allow students to use AI while studying would be an uphill battle.
“I wanted to build something that was a helpful tool,” Singh said. “I wanted to build something that helped people study.”
After experimenting with different iterations of an AI-powered studying tool in Entrepreneurship, Singh came up with a solution. He realized that rather than a school-focused generative AI tool, students would benefit more from a personalized, smart dashboard that housed other apps and tools, such as Quizlet, exam creators and indicators that help track GPA and study time. The dashboard is personalizable to best fit each student’s unique studying methods and needs.
“I’ve noticed that many students want a space that helps them study, like a room of their own,” Singh said. “You know how you study in your own room and it’s set up your way, so I created a dashboard and I call it Serene Study Space.”
Serene Study Space is available online and completely free. It offers students an AI driven dashboard they can design to fit their personal preferences, with study tools, music, calendars and vibes; all to help hone the student’s focus.

“[I plan to] find a problem that I and other people face and build something to bring a change to the community and make people’s lives better,” Singh said.
Singh grew up in an environment where creative ideas and entrepreneurship are deeply valued, which inspired him to pursue his idea.
“I’ve been raised in a family with a very entrepreneurial mindset because my family owns a business,” Singh said. “I wanted to make something that was my own and I wanted to have the skills for it, so that’s why I took Entrepreneurship.”
Singh created Serene Study Space for a class project in which students were challenged to find a need and provide a solution for it. Singh looked for what his classmates needed and how to help them.
“In Entrepreneurship, we talk a lot about how to make your business something people need,” Cahill said. “He created this study tool, and it was really impressive how he was able to meet the needs of students.”
With Cahill’s guidance, Singh continued to develop and fine-tune his dashboard throughout the Entrepreneurship class and into his senior year. Serene Study Space is a useful tool for students at any level of education, and Singh is now focused on attracting users.
“My goal is to reach one hundred people in the next few months,” Singh said.
Singh plans to continue in the world of business and entrepreneurship beyond high school and further harness the innovations of artificial intelligence and technology to better our world.
“I already knew I wanted to go into the business route from the beginning [of high school] but now I know I want to make something of my own to solve a problem that I and other people are facing,” Singh said.
