With the sun shining and hours on end of free time, everyone can get active or sit back and get their tan on. Whether your hanging out with your friends or enjoying alone time, it doesn’t get better than a hot summer day. With these activities, you’ll be sure to have the most fun and make the best memories to look back on.
#5: Swimming
Whether you are going to a pool or a lake to swim, diving in is so refreshing. The instant cooldown after being cooked in the sun is a feeling like no other. Playing games in the water like Sharks and Minnows, Marco Polo and chicken fights, or seeing how many laps you can do in one breath, brings out the inner child in everyone. If you’re not lucky enough to have your own pool, Hopkinton State Park and Lake Chauncy in Westborough are great local spots, or with a paid membership, you can swim at the YMCA in Westborough or Westboro Tennis & Swim Club.
#4: Pickleball
A game built for friendly competition, with a large age range of players and a welcoming community, pickleball is cheap and easy to learn and play. With all the public courts at Ellsworth McAfee Park in Northborough, aka 135 fields, Lake Chauncy or even here at ARHS, the only expenses are paddles and balls, which can be bought for around $20. Unlike tennis, you and a few friends can play a competitive game pretty much on day one. Pickleball is great for exercise and making new friends. Just remember to watch out for that kitchen!
#3: Sitting by a campfire
After a long day in the sun and stuffing your face with food, the best thing to do is get into comfy clothes and sit by a fire in the backyard. Sitting with your friends, sharing funny stories, creating inside jokes and making lifelong memories is one of the most feel-good experiences. If you are alone, then reading a book or listening to music can be just as relaxing. Don’t forget the s’mores!
#2: Golf
Hitting the links is so peaceful, whether you have a group of friends for a foursome or get paired with random people. Golf is made for all ages and ranges of players, and that’s what makes it so enjoyable. It is a rollercoaster of emotions, with the satisfaction of hitting a good shot to slicing the ball into the woods on the very next one. Juniper Hills in Northborough, Westborough Golf Club and the Cyprian Keyes Golf Club Par 3 course in Boylston are all great options for your first couple of rounds. Golf is a great source of exercise if you plan on walking, or you can grab a golf cart. Who doesn’t enjoy driving a golf cart around for a couple of hours?
#1: Going to the Beach
There is no better feeling than waking up early, meeting your friends, stopping at Dunkin’ and hitting the road. With the windows rolled down and the music turned up, the tone for the day to come is set. Playing games like spikeball, paddleball, football and jumping in the waves, or lying down and tanning, are the perfect activities to enjoy the beach. Some of the most popular beaches within a pretty easy drive are Hampton Beach in New Hampshire and Narragansett in Rhode Island.
Honorable Mentions:
Amusement park, ice cream trip and pool basketball.
