Looking for a new romantic comedy series with witty banter and lively chemistry? “Nobody Wants This” is a refreshing take on romantic comedy in the era of fast production series, starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell with impressive chemistry.
When hot Rabbi Noah (Brody) meets agnostic sex podcaster Joanne (Bell), you get a charming, addicting miniseries. Noah is looking to get promoted to head rabbi, and his Temple is concerned what will happen if he marries an agnostic girl with a promiscuous past. Packed with tropes such as “will they-won’t they?” and “forbidden love” makes it as timeless as “Titanic.”
The limited series, which has 10 episodes in the first season, was released in September, and is coming back to Netflix for season two. The storyline is inspired by director Erin Foster’s husband who is Jewish, and her conversion to Judaism in 2019 before marrying him.
A blend of realistic chemistry, excellent conversation and likeable side characters makes this an engaging series. Additionally, viewers get to see a male love interest, Noah, who has morals and personality, rather than just being eye candy. Noah and his brother Sasha complement Joanne and her sister Morgan well, and their siblings have a tumultuous relationship of their own for some comedic relief amongst all the romantic tension.
Bell portrays a very relatable, genuine main character, portrayed without the classic male gaze viewers are accustomed to seeing in recent releases such as in “Anyone But You.”
Brody brings the charm to create dialogue that makes you swoon. The chemistry between the actors is sophisticated and engaging as a result of their delightfully thought-provoking conversations.
