Top 5 things to do during the summer

Sania Hasan, Staff Writer

As school comes to a close, we often find ourselves with a lot of time that we have no idea what to do with. If you’re looking to cure your boredom, consider trying something from this list of the top five things to do during the summer.

#5: Make tie dye T-shirts

With the warm weather, making tie dye t-shirts is a great outdoor activity to do on your own or with a group of friends. There is a wide variety of colors and patterns to make, so you can really let your creativity fly! You can easily find a tie dye kit online, like this one, or in stores such as Target or Michael’s.

#4: Fly a kite

This is an easy activity, and fun to do with friends or by yourself. All you need is a kite and a nice summer breeze. A great place to find that perfect kite-flying breeze is Castle Island in Boston, MA. There is truly something magical and serene about watching your kite soar through the sky.

#3: Have a picnic

Gather up a group of friends or family members, grab some food, and head outside! A picnic is a great way to spend time with your loved ones. Plus, it gets you outside to get some fresh air and lets you soak up the summer sun. Some of my favorite picnic spots are Dean Park in Shrewsbury and Hopkinton State Park!

#2: Go to the beach

This summer activity is a classic for a reason – it has something for everyone. Under the hot summer sun, a swim at the beach is super refreshing. If you’re not much of a swimmer, you can read a book and relax in the sand or build a sand castle instead! Check out Harby’s Top 5 Area Beaches for ideas of where to go.

#1: Go on a road trip

Get in the car, turn up the music and hit the road! A road trip is a great way to explore a new place and spend time with your friends. After all, it’s not about the destination but rather the journey. And what better way to have such a fun journey than with a road trip! There are many places nearby that you can go for a fun day trip, such as driving along the Maine Coast or heading to Cape Cod.
