Injuries and Melodies: Freshman releases soul-pop EP

Freshman Julia Howard is not afraid to dream big, as she is releasing her own soul-pop music into the world.

Howard is currently going through the process of getting her EP, Injures, onto iTunes and Spotify.

“It [“Injures”] was the first song I ever wrote on the EP, and it speaks to how you get hurt, you get pushed down, but you heal,” Howard said.

Howard’s music, while not completely on iTunes yet, is currently being put on SoundCloud under the stage name Julia James.

“I’m always putting stuff up there, but I’ll have it all up soon,” Howard said.

Howard has always enjoyed making music.

“I’ve been singing since I was about seven,” Howard said, “but I’ve been humming tunes since I was born.”

“I’ve always had a vision to grow up and be a singer songwriter,” Howard said, “But I’d never do it to be famous.”

The idea for Injures came to Howard when her mentor, Jessie Chris, told her to put all the songs Howard wrote into an EP.

“Instead of recording my songs on a camera in my house, she [Chris] told me to make an EP,” Howard said.

Injures contains much of Howard’s favorite kinds of music, “I would say it’s [Injures] a mix of Soul, Pop, and R&B,” Howard said. “I just really like that kind of style.”

Artists such as Tori Kelly have greatly shaped how Howard makes her music.

“She has a good style of R&B and soul-pop,” Howard said.

Howard  plans to never stop making music.

“I just want to take it one day at a time…but I never want to stop because it’s what I love to do,” Howard said.
