Making the most of your senior study is all about finding the right balance between productivity and enjoying your free time. Whether you’re grabbing food, getting a drink, finishing some homework or just getting out of school for a bit, how you spend that time can shape your mood for the rest of the day. Senior studies are one of the few chances to have some independence during school, so it’s worth making the most of them. Here are the top five ways to spend your senior study that keep it productive and fun.
#5: Apex Plaza
Every Algonquin senior knows the Apex Plaza, only an eight-minute drive from the school, and packed with tons of different things to do on your break from school. Within Apex, you can spend your card swipes at the arcade for a potential prize, or jump out of some stress at Altitude Trampoline Park on the third floor. In addition, the plaza offers numerous places to grab some lunch, such as Panera Bread or Raising Cane’s, alongside other things you can do to pass the time, like shopping. With stores like Marshalls and Five Below, you can walk the aisles with friends while looking for little hidden gems to decorate your room with or to style an outfit for school.
#4: Uhlman’s Ice cream
Only a 10-minute drive from the school is Uhlman’s Ice Cream in Westborough. With over 50 different flavors and plenty of toppings to choose from, you’ll never run out of options to cool you down on a hot day; however, we recommend chocolate peanut butter or black raspberry Oreo. Since Uhlman’s opens at 11 a.m., this stop is perfect for rewarding yourself with a little sweet treat after lunch to get you through the day. In the warmer months leading up to summer, it’s our favorite way to spend our senior study.
#3: Lala Java
Need to use your study to finish up some work, but don’t want to be stuck in the library? About 10 minutes away is the Lala Java Coffee shop in Northborough, where you can sit down with tiki-inspired decor and music. They have tons of different drink options such as refreshers, slushies and every caffeinated drink you could think of to power you through the school day. If you need a snack, there are a variety of muffins and pastries, but the fan-favorites are the various grilled cheese sandwiches, where you can pick your cheese and filling (our favorite is the pulled pork grilled cheese with pickles). The grilled cheese sandwiches are all served with Goldfish crackers on the side, offering a bit of nostalgia.
#2: Aero Coffee Roasters
If you’re looking for a quick but filling lunch, Aero Coffee Roasters is a great option! Located in Northborough and a 10-minute walk or five-minute drive from the school, it is super convenient to get there and allows enough time to eat. What makes it stand out is the quality and freshness of the food compared to typical fast food spots. They offer a variety of options, making it easy to find something that fits your mood. The meals feel more complete and well-rounded, making it a strong and convenient choice for lunch.
#1: Dunkin’ / Starbucks (tie)
If you’re looking for a relaxed place to study or hang out, Dunkin’ in Northborough and Starbucks in Marlborough are certainly the most popular senior spots. Both are a 10-minute drive, making access convenient when you’re short on time. Unlike most food places, these places are less about full meals and more about the atmosphere. The environment is calm, comfortable and ideal for getting work done or just catching up with friends. With a wide range of drinks and small snacks, Starbucks and Dunkin’ are easy choices, whether you’re studying or just need a quick break, claiming the number one spot.
