“Rust” is one of those games that can ruin your sleep schedule in the best and worst way possible. “Rust” is a post-apocalyptic survival game where you, as the character, start with nothing and have to build yourself up by gathering materials, crafting weapons and creating a base to protect your stuff. The twist is that you are doing all of this while other real players are out there too. These other players can choose to either help you out or play against you in a “survival of the fittest” situation.
What makes “Rust” so fun is how intense the gameplay feels at every moment. Even running back to your base with a little bit of loot feels like a mission because you never know who’s watching. The game is super addicting because there is always something to do, like upgrading your base, crafting better weapons or taking risks for better loot, such as guns or materials.
The world makes it even better because you’re on a huge island with forests, beaches, mountains and abandoned buildings, with everything feeling gritty and dangerous. You will often hear gunshots in the distance, footsteps nearby and random sounds that instantly make you paranoid. Besides other players, you also have to deal with hunger, cold weather and animals like wolves and bears, so it’s never truly “safe.”
“Rust” is 10 times better to play with friends because you can build together, fight together and actually survive longer. Some of the funniest moments happen when your whole team is panicking during a raid or trying to defend the base while everything is going wrong. Another aspect that makes “Rust” unique is the wipe system, where servers reset, and everyone starts over again. It sounds annoying, but it keeps the game fresh because every wipe feels like a brand new chance to become powerful.
At the same time, “Rust” has real setbacks. The community can be toxic, and people will trash talk, betray you or raid you just to be annoying. It can also feel unfair because you can grind for hours and then lose everything in one offline raid. Since the game involves guns and constant fighting, it’s also definitely for mature audiences because of the violent nature.. If I had to compare it, it’s kind of like “Minecraft,” but way more stressful and competitive.
You can purchase “Rust” on PC and consoles for a base price of $40, though it’s likely to go on sale often. Although the game has had its fair share of rage-inducing moments, it is still one of the most fun and intense games that is out there. Make sure you have a lot of free time, “Rust” is sure to keep you playing.
