With a 15-5 season, the boys’ basketball team claimed the Mid-Wach League A title and had an altogether successful season motivated by improved chemistry and a new culture.
After a first round post-season 51-40 win against Boston Latin, the team was eliminated in the second round with a 54-74 loss to Malden Catholic. Senior captains Dylan Poirier, Brody Faessler and Ryan Green were named Mid-Wach League MVP, first team all-star and academic all-star, respectively, while head coach Andrew Kinney was awarded Coach of the Year.
Faessler, Green and Poirier said a huge reason for their success was their team’s family-like bond.
“When you have tight bonds, you create chemistry,” Faessler said.
Green said the team came into the season with high expectations and played with a different level of energy compared with previous years. According to Green, overall effort and defense were key parts of their success.
“It’s definitely new energy and new culture,” Green said.
Kinney said the constant energy from bench players was a key factor in their season.

“When you get guys that aren’t playing in the games, they can bring negative energy, but they didn’t; they did the exact opposite,” Kinney said.
One setback the Titans struggled with was injuries. Specifically those to Green, and juniors Jake O’Connell and Tanay Samuel significantly impacted the team during the regular season.
“[Injuries] kind of put us back, and messed up our chemistry that we had, but I think we did a good job fighting through it and still working together as a team,” Samuel said via text.
Kinney shared a similar sentiment to his players.
“Injuries are tough, and I don’t like to come up with excuses, but who knows?” Kinney said. “Maybe things [would be] different if we didn’t have any injuries or if injuries were not as bad.”
Even with the early elimination, senior Cam Citro doesn’t believe the team should look back on the season any differently.
“It didn’t end the way we wanted, and it definitely hurt at first,” Citro said. “But after some time, we were able to look back and appreciate how great our season was and how much fun we had playing together as a team.”
