College football is a sport like no other. Built on rowdy fans, energized universities and heated rivalries, while bringing a life or death feeling to every game. The 2025 season has been nothing short of that, as it has brought many star-studded teams and plenty of unforgettable moments. The major debate is who’s the best of the best, so here are the top five college football teams currently.
HM: Ole Miss Rebels
The Rebels stand 3rd in the SEC behind Alabama and Georgia with a record of 11-1, racking up big wins against Tulane (10-2), LSU (7-5) and Oklahoma (10-2). Ole Miss possesses a potent offense accompanied by a strong run game led by running back Kewan Lacy and quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Despite having a good defense, Ole Miss still showed inconsistencies, which was on full display in their loss to Georgia (12-1). Although the Rebels are playoff-bound, they are unlikely to win the national championship after their beloved head coach Lane Kiffin left them for a job at LSU once the regular season ended. This earns them the Honorable Mention on this list.
#5: Texas A&M Aggies
Texas A&M owns a record of 11-1 with impressive victories against LSU (7-5), Notre Dame (10-2) and Missouri (8-4). Texas A&M’s explosive offense is led by the duo of wide receiver Kevin Concepcion and quarterback Marcel Reed, who have paved the way for the Aggies, scoring 30-plus points in ten out of their twelve games. The Aggies, despite having an amazing record, did not beat a Southeastern Conference (SEC) team over 0.500 in conference play. A devastating loss to Texas (9-3) in their final game of the regular season puts them at number five on this list.
#4: Texas Tech Red Raiders
The Red Raiders are conference champions and have come out of the Big 12 looking like a powerhouse, as they have built a 12-1 record with big wins over BYU (11-2) twice and Utah (10-2). Texas Tech did suffer a loss to Arizona State (8-4), but bounced back in a major way by winning the last 6 games. The Red Raiders are led by the first team all American defensive player Jacob Rodriguez, who has played a huge role in the team’s success this season. His gameplay has set Texas Tech up for a possible run at the national championship. This resume earns Texas Tech the number four spot on this list.
#3: Ohio State Buckeyes
The defending National Champions, Ohio State, stand with a record of 12-1, winning important match-ups over Texas (9-3) and Michigan (9-3). The Buckeyes showcased their unstoppable offense with star players Julian Sayin and Carnell Tate. Their offense also features star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who has totaled over 1,000 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns this season alone. While the offense has been unstoppable, the defense has been even better, featuring potential top 10 NFL draft picks in Arvell Reese and Caleb Downs, with two time Super Bowl Champion defensive coordinator Matt Patricia at the helm of the Buckeyes defense seems unbeatable. Ohio State still has yet to be tested against the best teams other than their loss to Indiana (13-0) in the Big Ten Championship, but holds the second-best record in the Big Ten giving them the number three spot on this list.
#2: Georgia Bulldogs
Georgia, the SEC champions, posted a 12-1 record with many big wins on the season, beating Texas (9-3), Georgia Tech (9-3), Ole Miss (11-1), Alabama (10-3) and Tennessee (8-4), but held a loss to Alabama (10-3) which occurred earlier in the season. The Dawgs possess an underrated defensive front that has shown to be effective against the run and are led by star quarterback Gunner Stockton on offense. Although a tough loss to Alabama, Georgia ended up crushing the Tide in the SEC championship. The Bulldogs have managed to conquer a death run of a schedule, but still have ways to go, earning them the number two spot on this list.
#1: Indiana Hoosiers
Indiana, the Big Ten Champions, has an impressive 13-0 record, scoring 50-plus points in six of their 13 games, while having wins over Ohio State (12-1), Oregon (11-1) and Iowa (8-4). Being led by Heisman favorite quarterback Fernando Mendoza and legendary head coach Curt Cignetti who post a 24-2 record over the last two seasons. Indiana also ranks 1st in the nation for third down conversions showing that when it counts the offense can make it happen. The Hoosiers are moving on to the college football playoffs, where they look to win their first National Championship. This earns Indiana the right to be number one on this list.
