Newly elected freshman class president Tommy O’Hearn looks forward to a great year of both fun and accomplishments alongside his dedicated and bright-minded steering committee.
O’Hearn, who was elected class president this past September, plans to bring efficiency, readiness, responsibility and most importantly, fun to the steering committee while also keeping costs low and expectations high. Other class officers include vice president Anthony Chacharone, secretary Thomas Garcia and treasurer Avery Logan.
“I’m excited to connect with the freshman class and hear their amazing ideas while also working with my wonderful steering committee,” O’Hearn said.
O’Hearn, who lives in Southborough, originally wanted to run for president to follow in the footsteps of his two older sisters, one who is still a junior at Algonquin and another who graduated last spring. They both ran for class officer positions during their time at Algonquin. However, he also decided to take action for office after meeting classmates from Northborough.
“Coming in on the first day [of school] and just meeting a bunch of new kids from Northborough, I was like, ‘Wow, they’re smart, funny, kind [and] compassionate,’ and that really just started a spark in me,” O’Hearn said. “I was like, ‘I think I really want to help these kids.'”
With the guidance and support of their class advisers Health and Fitness teacher Kristen Morcone and Applied Arts teacher Nicole Ruffo, O’Hearn believes the committee will find success when it comes to planning events, fundraisers and even themes like class color, seeing the sky as the limit.
“I think we are going to be very successful with whatever we’re going to do whenever we want to do it because we [have] brought up some bright students with thoughtful young minds, and I think we can do it,” O’Hearn said. “Everyone wants to be there, and we’re pumped; our advisors are amazing.”
Garcia also views this year as one with great potential when looking at the steering committee and his class president. He believes that all members have the passion and dedication required to make the 2025-2026 year a fun and productive one.
“I see passion on the committee and everyone truly wants to make the steering committee and school the best it can be,” Garcia said. “I feel like [O’Hearn] really drives the initiative and makes sure something is always happening and that we’re making progress on it,” Garcia said.
O’Hearn’s leadership style consists of being visionary and a pace setter, as he tries to map out the plan for this year and do as much as possible to help out with that plan. O’Hearn especially looks forward to crafting a year with a perfect mix of fun and productive planning to help the Class of 2029 achieve its goals.
