Led by senior captains Ben Yosca and Nathan Meschisen, the boys’ hockey team completed their regular season with a 7-9-2 record. The team also went undefeated for the first time ever in the Newburyport Bank Classic tournament. Yosca reflected on the team’s successes.
What was the highlight of the season?
“The highlight of the season was beating Marlborough twice. Once 4-1 and then 8-2, so that was nice.”
Who were some of your key players?
“Some key players are myself, the other captain Nathan Meschisen, [seniors] Jared Walsh and Dylan Beard and [junior] Nick Robbins. I’d say us five are the backbone of the team…We do what we need to do, set the tone, make all the right plays and score most of the goals.”
What was the most challenging part of the season?
“Probably, the third period against good teams. When we play a pretty strong team, we’ll be able to hang in there for one or two periods. Once we get to that third period against teams like Auburn or Shrewsbury, we don’t hang in there, and we get a lot of penalties and beat ourselves.”
What is your team dynamic like?
“We bonded pretty well. There’s seven seniors, so a lot of underclassmen, a lot of people that we have had to bring under our belts and teach them the ways, but I say the chemistry is pretty good. We’re all friends.”
