With an abundance of cute, aesthetic and helpful videos and posts, opening Pinterest is a wonderland for your eyes with anything and everything related to you and your vibe. While it might not be as popular as other social media apps, Pinterest is an underrated platform that helps stimulate inspiration.
Pinterest is a social media app that allows one to search, save and scroll for inspiration and content. According to Adam Connell’s “41 Pinterest Statistics For 2025,” Pinterest has over 522 million monthly active users and is the world’s 12th favorite social media app. Additionally, each year since Pinterest’s launch in 2010 its usage has gone up 12%, making it increasingly more popular.
As Pinterest does not have an active reel feature, it limits mindlessly scrolling simply because you are bored or do not want to do your homework. Instead, the app offers a positive spin on social media with its less intense home page and by cultivating a calm user experience, along with many topics that hopefully excite you.
On Pinterest, users can form boards with their saved pins which is the content they save and organize their thoughts by creating vision boards to inspire their year, their future or vacation planning. Similar to other social media apps, you can follow people, post, and like other posts and comments.
Even better, your account can be made public or private. You can also create private, personal boards that not even your followers can see. Another option for boards is a collaboration, which can be shared with multiple people who can add their own pins or collages. This is a great way to start brainstorming for a group project, or just as a fun activity to see what your friends are up to.
Looking through other people’s accounts and saved boards is another great way to help the inspiration process for your own account. Some examples of boards that can be made are outfit inspiration, room inspiration, nail ideas, gift ideas, jewelry, hairstyles, cooking or baking recipes, beauty products, favorite quotes or to-be-read books. My personal favorite board that I created is pictures of baby dogs and other animals to look at when I need comfort.
Mini boards can also be put in a main board for extra organization, a tool that is constantly used by many people including myself. For example, the main board might be about jewelry and in each mini board might be a different type of jewelry like earrings, necklaces, rings or bracelets. This option becomes more helpful with the more saved pins you have and saves you from scrolling through the whole board to find that one ring you really want.
In my personal experience, Pinterest has helped me with a variety of projects. In school, the app can be used to look up color schemes for a presentation or relatable images to use in your project. Out of school, the app can be used to find quotes for a scrapbook or silhouettes and stickers to create a vision board.
Also, the fact that you can’t watch reels helped me to not get as attached to the app. Pinterest can be a better social media option as it is less addicting and less time consuming.
As one of the first social media apps I got, Pinterest helped me feel connected and not left out with other people online, but in a safer and more positive way. Based on your preferences, each person’s Pinterest home page will look different, but for the most part, it is more focused on a positive feed rather than unrealistic people to compare yourself to.
Instead of reels, there are inspirational quotes, recipes and anything else you can think of. With a search engine that gives you the best answers and multitudes of inspiration, the benefits are endless.
Despite the lack of appreciation for Pinterest, it is growing in popularity and is a great app that can be used for many different purposes. Whether you are looking to start fresh this upcoming year with your new goals, or just looking for a place to keep your thoughts and ideas, now is the perfect time to refresh with Pinterest and indulge in yourself with this app to calm your nerves and inspire creativity.
