The Christmas tree is a classic tradition, having been around since the 16th century. For many, choosing and decorating a tree is a favorite part of the holiday season. Although many who buy trees just think of trees in general, there are many varieties to choose from, each with its own attributes, which I sourced from the Real Christmas Tree Board.
#5: Balsam Fir
The Balsam Fir is the face of the classic Christmas Tree, and for good reason. The tree sports a grand size along with a strong smell that anyone can recognize. Short, sturdy needles hold up ornaments well enough, and their striking deep, dark green color helps them stand out from the decor of a room. The only issue is that the tree is rather basic due to its average height and indistinct shape, along with it being rather offensive to those with allergies.
#4: Nordmann Fir
A very striking tree, with some of the darkest needles around, you might find a Nordmann Fir in department stores or in a town square because of its excellent shape and needle strength. Its lack of strong scent can help those with scent sensitivity enjoy the holidays without having to sacrifice their favorite traditions.
#3: Fraser Fir
The Fraser Fir is the most common tree in the northeast. If you have a natural Christmas tree, chances are this is the one. The Fraser Fir has a nice blend of smell and durability perfect for hanging ornaments. The needles come in neat, clean bunches and dry out very slowly, increasing its longevity. The shape is less bushy, and much more streamlined, making your living room a scene out of a Christmas movie. This is the quintessential Christmas tree.
#2: Arizona Cypress
This is an incredibly durable, region-specific tree that holds a nice shape and manageable size. You could keep this tree up for a very long time, and still keep it fresh. The citrusy minty scent helps it stand out amongst the competition. Keep it watered, though, as it can easily dry out in a warm home!
#1: Concolor Fir
The Concolor Fir is a unique tree and my personal favorite. The tree sports straight blue-ish needles and an intense citrus scent that encompasses the Christmas vibe perfectly. It is fairly large and found across the country, a perfect Christmas tree for any home.
