In 2019, Capcom marked the beginning of the remake series in the form of Resident Evil 2 Remake. A ridiculously fun zombie survival horror game, Resident Evil 2 Remake has become one of the most popular games in the franchise, selling well over 12 million copies and was nominated for Game of the Year.
It’s a survival horror game exploring three distinct areas: the police station, sewers and an underground lab all crawling with zombies and other monstrosities ready to tear your guts out. You search room to room for scarce resources, fending off zombies and solving puzzles to progress further into revealing the mystery of the outbreak.
The game stars two protagonists with two plots: Leon Kennedy, a rookie police officer first stationed at Racoon City only to find it swarming with zombies and Claire Redfield, a member of Terrasave coming into Racoon City searching for her brother working at the Police station as a member of S.T.A.R.S (Special Tactics And Rescue Service). However instead, Redfield finds and rescues a young girl named Sherry Berkins.
In about a third of the game you’ll gain a near unstoppable pursuer, Mr. X, clothed in a stylish trench coat and a fedora hat. He was created by the Umbrella Corp to hunt down survivors in Racoon City and retrieve samples of virus that made “G”. You first encounter him from the police station down to the lab, where he stalks the hallways listening for the player and busting through walls to cut you off. Leon and Mr. X meet on an escape elevator for a final showdown.
“G” is a boss you meet throughout the game that mutates each time you defeat him. In the second plot he pursues Sherry in order to infect her into another monster like “G”. You first meet him under the police station in a fight that ends in him falling into the dark off a railing. He appears as a man who loses control of his arm eventually losing all of himself. Claire meets him for the last time in the collapsing lab, defeating him by leaving him in a fiery explosion.
I strongly suggest anyone who’s into graphic horror to give this game a chance. With its engaging story-line and captivating graphics, you won’t be able to stop playing. If you’re unsure, they have a demo for you to try before purchasing the full game, which is available on Steam, PS and Xbox and costs $40 on all platforms.
