Senior Charlie Hynes reaches out to fist-bump a Worcester South player during the boys’ soccer game on Oct. 21. During the game, Hynes scored in double overtime, bringing the final score to 2-1.

How did it feel to score the game-winning goal?

“It was great, especially coming out in the playoffs. For the past few years, winning in the playoffs has been difficult for us as a team to do, and we haven’t had the best of luck with that. But this year was great coming out and finally getting a win, and to do so in that manner was just awesome.”

How did the game go overall?

“I was pretty satisfied with the way we played. We knew what to expect coming in because we had watched how they played prior, but I think that for the entirety of the game, we stuck to the way we wanted to play, and we were really persistent with that. I think because of that, we did well. We kept trying to play our style of soccer and it eventually worked for us, which was really good.”

Was one team dominating play, or was it back and forth?

“I would say that for different periods of time, different teams played better, although I would say we played better for the majority of the match. Acton had a couple good counterattacks, although I felt for the large part, we were in control of the game. Their style of play was mostly just dropping back on defense and clearing it long, and that allowed us to establish control of the game because we had so much space, although it made it a lot harder to attack because they had so many people back. For the most part, I felt like we were in control of the game, and I felt like it was a deserved win.”

How did the tempo of the game change after the first goal by Garrett Burns?

“The first goal definitely hyped us all up. It was awesome. To do that in the dying seconds of the game before the overtimes was unreal. It was electrifying to have the fans behind us, and after scoring that, we had all the momentum. It felt like we were up when we were tied, and we just came out with such confidence because of that. I think that was one of the things that helped me grab the second [goal], but that was huge, and I felt that after the first goal [by the opposing team], I think we did a good job as a team not letting that get us down, and we continued to play our style.”
