How do you feel about being committed?

“I feel super excited to commit because I know it’s a huge responsibility, and it motivates me to live up to high expectations I expect of myself.”

What made you choose the school you’re committed to?

“I chose Northeastern because of its exceptional co-op program and ability to pursue my major, entrepreneurial startups, in the specialized N.U.in program. I knew that if I chose Northeastern, I could comfortably manage my time between academics and tennis.”

What does it mean to you to play a sport in college?

“Playing tennis in college means a lot. I love the thrill of competition and self improvement. I know it’s an opportunity that would come once in a lifetime, so I want to make this experience as memorable as possible. I’ve played this sport for over ten years, and it’s hard to leave it behind because I have grown so attached to it. When I look back on my college years in the future, I will definitely say that tennis made the experience all the more enjoyable.”

Senior Sam Hill is eager to continue playing baseball in the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst. (Olivia Battles)

Sam Hill – UMass Amherst baseball

How do you feel about being committed?

“It feels awesome to be committed. It took a good amount of pressure off of myself this fall when it came to figuring out where I wanted to apply and I knew I had the grades to put up in order to be accepted.”

What made you choose the school you’re committed to?

“The biggest reason I chose UMass was because of the home-away-from-home experience. I knew I didn’t want to go far and UMass was the perfect fit. Also getting into the Isenberg School of Management was a huge pull as well, and it was great to have a spot on the baseball team with great opportunities.”

What does it mean to you to play a sport in college?

“It means a lot to me. To be able to represent my college as a student athlete is something I’ve always dreamed about, and now I have the opportunity to do so with UMass. I can’t wait.”

Kerryn O’Connell – Sacred Heart hockey

Senior Kerryn O’Connell has committed to Sacred Heart University for hockey after falling in love with the campus, athletics and academics. (Priya Maraliga)

How do you feel about being committed?

“It’s a really great feeling. I’ve worked my whole life for this. I’ve always wanted to play hockey in college, especially at the DI level, so I’m really excited, really relieved, and really grateful that it all worked out.

What made you choose the school you’re committed to?

“It was definitely a really long process [looking] because I didn’t really know what I wanted when I started out. I started looking really early, like 8th grade, freshman year for schools and I found the school sophomore year. One of my coaches introduced me to the school and thought it would be a good fit for me, and then as soon as I got talking with the coach, he invited me out for an overnight last December. As soon as I stepped on campus it was immediately so welcoming. It was such a great overnight. I really got to see how everything ran there, both hockey and school wise, and so I think that’s something that was really a big influence for me, how they ran both the academics and the athletics and it was definitely a big deciding factor for me. The mix of the campus life as well as the academics and athletics was just a great fit for me, and I fell in love with it right away. It was amazing.

What does it mean to you to play a sport in college?

“It means a lot to me. It’s something I always wanted to do. I told my grandmother when I was six that I was going to play Division I hockey when I got older, so just to have that dream of mine come true was really cool and I’m really grateful for it. I am super excited for the future.”
