Narendra Modi– India’s prime minister Narendra Modi addressed a crowd at Madison Square Garden. In his speech, Modi had expressed desires to “lift India to glory” by cleaning up and opening for business opportunities. According to the New York Times, Obama called the invitation with India “the defining partnership of the 21st century.” Both Washington and Delhi are trying to mend some of the withered ties through Modi’s plans for a future India.

 

Derek Jeter- After 40 years of playing professional baseball, Derek Jeter has retired. He played his last game for the New York Yankees at Fenway Park. The stadium was packed with fans from both teams to say their goodbyes. The game brought both a literal and symbolic close to the summer.

 

George ClooneyGeorge Clooney legally married human rights lawyer, Amal Alamuddin. The pair finalized their union at a ceremony in Venice, Italy. Clooney and Alamuddin had a more private ceremony two days prior with close friends including Billy Murray, Matt Damon, and Emily Blunt.

 

The SimpsonsAfter teasing fans for months, writers of the Simpsons have finally revealed which character the character that was to be killed off. Spoiler alert for those who haven’t yet watched, the character that died was Krusty the clown. Fans of the show were disappointed, taking to social media to express feelings about the drama.

 

Mount St. Helens– About ten years ago, Mount Saint Helens of Skamania County, Washington erupted. The mountain hasn’t received much attention since then, though it shows signs of erupting again. Those participating in the U.S. Geological Survey have reported signs of volcanic activity. The “magma chamber” has showed signs of charging again. The U.S.G.S has said that eruption is pretty far off, though thanks to improved technology they can track volcanic and seismic activity to make more accurate predictions.
