iPhone According to the New York Times, Apple said that it had sold 10 million units of its new and bigger iPhones over the course of a weekend, which compares to thenine million iPhones it sold last year in the first weekend of sales for the previous generation of phones. The product makes up for 70 per cent of Apple’s profit.

 

Pennsylvania State Police– Pennsylvania authorities said that they were closing in on a “self-taught survivalist” accused of killing one state trooper and wounding a second during an ambush earlier this month outside a police barracks in the Pocono Mountains. Authorities said Eric M. Frein, 31, opened fire on the troopers with a high-powered rifle and fled into the countryside. Since then, he has avoided negotiations made by state police officers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, as well as F.B.I. agents. The search for Mr. Frein has narrowed to a few square miles not far from Canadensis, PA. See the New York Times article for more information.

 

Climate change– According to CNN, “At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Barack Obama will address climate change to a group of world leaders at the U.N. Climate Summit. The meeting is open to leaders of all 193 U.N. member states, though not all will attend, plus members of the private sector. Obama will call on other leaders to work towards a strong global framework to cut emissions at the summit.”

 

Yemen– According to Vox.com, members of a Yemeni militant group stormed the nation’s capital, Sana’a. Yemen’s President, Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, announced a ceasefire agreement that would appoint a new prime minister on terms heavily favorable to the militants.That ceasefire only covers themilitants based in Yemen’s north, though. There’s a whole other rebellion in Yemen’s south, which is led by a particularly dangerous al-Qaeda affiliate, Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula.
