Quarantine Q&A: Senior Mateo Oyola

Erik Lin, Staff Writer

Due to COVID-19 precautions, this interview was done remotely.

What have you enjoyed most about the COVID-19 precautions and social distancing?

“I can have my own sleep schedule and work on projects that I would otherwise never get the attention they needed. I feel more organized than ever.”

What is the worst part of COVID-19 precautions and social distancing?

“The worst part of social distancing is that I cannot share this time with other people. Of course I appreciate family time, but going such a long time with limited contact with all my friends takes a toll on me.”

How have you been keeping yourself busy?

“I have kept myself busy by doing the optional and mandatory school work, attending college info sessions online, practicing the saxophone, playing video games, exercising and keeping up with the news.”

What predictions, hopes or fears do you have?

“I hope that we have enough time between then and now to allow the seniors a proper graduation. I fear that the number of cases as well as unemployment will skyrocket in these next weeks. I am hopeful that by summer, the danger will be over.”

Do you think we will eventually go back to school?

“I think we will eventually go back to school this year. I think May 4 is too ambitious, but I think we could return sometime Mid-May if we are lucky enough to have some sort of breakthrough in handling this pandemic.”
