Faculty Friday: Lynn Dorsey

Marissa Helms, Staff Writer

What do you enjoy most about your job?

“I have taught in the past, but even then I really enjoyed working one on one with kids. I like helping them understand what they need to do and making them feel confident.”

Does is take patience to do what you do?

“It does. Everyone brings something different to the game. A lot of personalities. It’s not for everybody, not everyone can work with kids.”

What pushes you to continue to help kids everyday?

“I genuinely like what I do and love kids.”

What’s the one person you remember most in your life that persuaded you to be the teacher you are today?

“I don’t really remember a specific person. Not everyone takes a straight path, and mine was a little bit sequitous. I was an engineer, so I went to Northeastern for engineering. I worked in a cubicle for a long time, but when I had kids, I much rather be home with them. I began volunteering at schools. I went back to school to get a teaching degree. So it was more spending time with my own kids and volunteering in school that pushed me to become a teacher.”

What subject do you most enjoy learning more about and helping your students with?

“Obviously, I was a math teacher, so it would have to be math. I enjoyed picking up Pre Calc a few years ago; I find it more challenging then some of the other subjects like Algebra One.”
