REVIEW: “No Tears Left To Cry” leaves fans with no criticisms

Ariana Grande puts out new music for her fans and leaves us all amazed by her vocals, glamour, and amazing cinematography for her new music video.

“No Tears Left To Cry” was released on April 20 with only one single. However, the song, titled the same as the album name, became a hit and made me go back to listening to the radio. With a deep message to her fans, the new music is both personal and open for many people to enjoy as well especially because of the relatable message and the catchy beats. Grande has also left a lot of her fans in a frenzy over her new look, sporting a low ponytail in her music video.

The music video for the single opens with the Grande sitting on a window sideways to create the illusion of no gravity. She starts off wearing a green elegant gown that suits the setting of the video which is a eye-catching hallway meant to be royal. The vibrant music video was very appealing as the graphics and transitions were eye-catching. One transition I loved was when she fell through the ceiling and then ended into a disarray of fairy lights. The effects also showed a new perspective; there were upside down cities and buildings. This complements the song’s message because as Grande is talking about a new perspective of life, we are also seeing this through the scenery.

One thing I especially loved about her new song was her new style and her drastic change in vocals. Instead of focusing on all high notes like her previous works, she sings with a alto tone as well. It demonstrated how wide her vocal range was. It gave off a unique feel that differentiates it from any other western song and from her own previous songs. However, Ariana Grande still keeps it up with those famous high notes in her new release.

Along with the notes, the beats are catchy too. Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry” is very lighthearted and soulful with an addictive beat. The new song may also have a distinctive meaning that sets it apart from her previous works. Many fans theorize that Grande was reflecting on the tragic bombing that happened during her Manchester, England concert in 2017. Twenty-four people died during the event and the singer suffered from trauma. Grande could be sending a message through her music that she is healing from the incident. “Right now, I’m in a state of mind, I wanna be in, like, all the time. Ain’t got no tears left to cry. So I’m pickin’ it up.” These lyrics show how Grande has recovered from the incident.

Overall, I enjoyed listening to and watching Grande’s new music and hope to see more from her as the year goes by. Her vocals and video cinematography set standards very high for other artists. It also emphasizes the heartening message that going through a tough phase in life can be hard, but it is important to get back up and move on.
