REVIEW: Take a trip down to Halloweentown

Brooke Suitum, Staff Writer

As October 31 approaches, high schoolers and their families are flocking to rewatch old festive movies, such as the classic 1998 “Halloweentown.”

One of four movies in the series, “Halloweentown” has been a staple in quintessential old films, and Halloween movie fanatics would agree that if you had a childhood, this movie would have been on tape or DVD in your cabinet.

Rewatching this movie so many years later gives all the feels of the holiday spirit, and of course makes you feel extremely old. For being produced in 1998, the quality is impressive, and could fit in with some Disney Channel movies that were made just a couple years ago. Although the cinematography may be a little outdated, it brings nostalgia of youth.

As the holiday creeps closer, it’s time to settle in and watch Aggie Cromwell take her grandkids Marnie and Dylan Piper for a Halloween adventure they will never forget, and you won’t either.

The main characters are lovable and cute siblings that start the movie by stealthily following their grandmother on a journey into Halloweentown to discover exciting secrets and family history.

The movie is rich with wit, and their journey is full of laughter, surprise, and a strange bag that follows Aggie Cromwell everywhere.

Sound effects are comically packed in the movie, definitely reminding you that you’re watching a 90s film.

When the siblings arrive in Halloweentown, it feels like you just got out of the bus with them. There are goblins, witches, and warlocks walking around everywhere with lively amounts of Halloween decor making it feel like the night of October 31 right from your couch.

The acting is better than most Netflix series recently, and watching this movie will make you want to watch the next three in the series in the same night. And if you’re feeling too old to go trick or treating this year, maybe a trip to Halloweentown is just want you need.
