Americans have been hitting the poll booths since the Iowa caucus kicked the election season into gear on February 1.

Since then, the races for party nominations have intensified. From a pool of candidates, the front runners have become clear.

Candidates for the Republican party, as of March 9, are Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich; Democratic candidates are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.

Above are results and dates of the primaries and caucuses in each state or territory. The maps will be updated from information compiled by The New York Times as voters across the nation make their preferences known.

Interact with the maps above by dragging your cursor over a state; a bubble will appear with the election winner of the party and date of the election. These maps indicate the candidates running to be nominated by their party as its official presidential candidate.

The races are tight and the election is revolutionary, no matter which candidate assumes their place in the Oval Office on November 8.
