It’s official: senior football player Trevor Fuce signed his National Letter of Intent and  in doing so, committed to the University of Maine’s Division 1 football program on February 4.

Although Fuce is moving on to the college level, he has not forgotten the path that got him to this point.

“I’d like to thank my family, teammates, friends, and coaches [for their support],” Fuce said on signing day.

Fuce first began playing football when he was in sixth grade with a Pop Warner team.

“I started late because I was too heavy to play with kids my own age,”  Fuce said.

Playing with more experienced players presented challenges.  In order to better develop his skills, Fuce began playing for a different team.

“In eighth grade, I started playing in the American Football league that had no weight limits,” Fuce said.

Fuce, now 6’4.5” and weighing 258 pounds, has since used his size, strength, and athleticism to his advantage.   He recorded 110 tackles last season.

Fuce has played both offensive tackle and defensive end, and learned and developed vital football skills during his years in high school.

“I’ve worked on skills like speed and strength.  I also improved my ability to read plays,” Fuce said.

Although Fuce is elated to have the opportunity to play college football, he says he will miss the experiences that he had playing at Algonquin.

“There’s a feeling of family and brotherhood [among] the players and the coaches,” Fuce said. “It was great being a leader of the team as a captain.  It also felt incredible to win big games this past season like on Thanksgiving against Westborough and earn a league championship.”

Fuce committed to the University of Maine because he thinks that its football program will be able to provide him with similar experiences.

“After spending some time with the players and coaches, it just felt like the right school,” Fuce said.

Fuce said he accepted a partial scholarship and will head into camp as an offensive tackle for a redshirt freshman season.

Fuce has contemplated his role at UMaine.

“I will be a leader by example on and off the field,” Fuce said.

Fuce says religion has played a major role in his life on and off the field.  He is a member of the Greater Grace Christian Fellowship in Marlborough.

“My faith has really helped guide me,” Fuce said.  “I don’t know where I’d be without it.”

Although Fuce will be a Black Bear next year, he will bring everything he has learned and experienced during high school with him.

“I want to be the best [version of] Trevor Fuce I can be.”
