The Advanced Drama class performed their annual improvisation show with a dance twist called Advanced Drama Night on May 19.

It is tradition that this show is a series of improvised scenes and improv games, which is exciting and fun for the cast and drama teacher Maura Morrison.  But with improv comes the unexpected and even the cast had no idea what was going to happen before the show started.

“I am always excited at the unexpected that improv is and the possibilities that improv entails,” Morrison said. “So [my feelings] are a combination of being always worried about something going wrong and hopeful that students will be able to be in the moment and be smart.”

This year, the cast decided to do something different by adding in a choreographed dance to the song “Nicest Kids In Town” from the movie “Hairspray.”  Everyone was very excited about how the audience would respond to this new addition.

“I am looking forward to see how the audience reacts to our dancing.  It is definitely going to be unexpected for an improv show,” senior Parker Lescalleet said.

This dance made the preparation grueling because they had to practice often with the help of senior Justin Stott, who was a part of the show and choreographed the dance.

“We have been preparing a lot,’ senior Paige Carney said. “We have had dance classes with our teacher Justin… he makes us line up on stage and we do a rigorous lesson of our dance and maybe do up to 10 runs of it each class.  It has really been hard, but we are getting it together. It seems like we’ve been dancing our whole lives.”

All the cast members were happy with their performances in front of the vibrant crowd as well.

“I think the show went really well,” senior Annie Campbell said. “We were lucky to have an awesome audience and I think that we really brought the energy to each scene.”

The show also received rave reviews from audience members.

“I loved it,” senior Casey Reynolds said. “I thought it was incredible workmanship.”

The cast hopes to leave behind a legacy with their unique dance addition to the show this year.

“I hope we raise the bar for advanced drama shows in the future,” senior Jill Furlong said.
