Varsity girls soccer wraps up passionate season
This season, the varsity girls’ soccer team embodied desire and a passion to achieve success.
“We as a team have very good chemistry along with a solid defense, and with more players this year that can play from off of the bench, we really have had a lot of depth,” senior captain Sarah Jackson said.
This season the girls earned first seed in the playoffs as they won their league title and went on to beat rival Nashoba twice. With this win they continued to face Westboro in the Central Mass finals, unfortunately losing 2-0.
Though the team gained much success, their road was not smooth, starting early with two losses to North Middlesex and Shrewsbury.
“Our problem early on was playing against bad teams at their level and not at ours, but we had resurgence on staying focused.” Bourdon said.
“The strength of this team is that we are very talented and unique because of how well we all meshed together,” said Senior Abbie McCann.
Coming into this year the girls expected to win the league title. Through continuous training and hard work they have found their success, finishing their season with a 15-3-3 record.
“Every day we are trying to make ourselves better players by teaching teamwork,” Junior Maggie Bourdon said, “Overall the team has good work ethic, good commitment, and now has good teamwork.”
Though a consistent program, this year’s team is very different from years past. It has been four years since the girls have won their league and this year they were proud to carry a very deep playoff run.
“There is definitely a different vibe from last year to now, we do not have many weaknesses,” McCann said.
“I believe that this team has fought as hard as it could. We have never been satisfied with losing or tying,” Jackson said, “When this year ends I miss all of the girls that have made this feel like a big family.”

I have seen the girls play every single game this year being on the boys varsity team. There was one to describe the team…. PASSIONATE! With their awesome cheers and creative spirit days, the girls varsity soccer team had an awesome seaon. With like a million seniors on the team the girls came together quick. Sad its over but job well done girls on such a successful season!
