2014-2015 Recap

15-9-0 overall record

Mid-Wach League Champs with a 7-0 league record

The team went on to place third at the Division Central Sectional match, as well as being the champions at the Marlborough Invitational

“Last year I had my best team with a record of 15-9 overall. We won the Mid Watch league and beat Nashoba in a dual meet,”  head coach Brian Kramer said.

“We won the Marlboro tournament and the league championships, but the postseason was a bit of a disappointment, I think we peaked too soon,” assistant coach James Gray said.

Bryce Finnegan (then 120 lbs) placed seventh at states

Drew Cozzolino (then 113 lbs) placed sixth at states and eighth at the all-state tournament

Austin Roche (then 132 lbs) placed fifth at the state tournament

Joe Vencile placed eighth at the state tournament

Key Athletes

The captains are senior Austin Roche (138 lbs), and juniors Drew Cozzolino (132 lbs) and Bryce Finegan (126 lbs).

“The three captains are great, and true wrestlers will lead the team to do better this season,” Gray said.

“The current MVP on our team is Austin Roche,” junior Curt Clark said. “He is extremely devoted to the sport, very talented and extremely consistent.”

In addition to the captains, the coaches have high hopes for sophomore Jack Golden (113 lbs.), and juniors Curtis Clark (152 lbs.), and Nate Porteus (160 lbs.)

Outlook for 2015- 16

“I think we have a good chance at being Mid-Wach league champs again and sectional champs this year,” Clark said.

“I look forward to adding more wins to our record this year and hopefully breaking 20 wins on the season. Also, I want to win the Division 2 central section as well. Last year we placed third,” Kramer said.

Coach Kramer hopes to have an athlete qualify for the New England tournament, the last and hardest tournament to qualify for within the season.

There have been changes made to the way the team is coached.

“[The biggest difference from last season] will be the mental game that my assistant coach James Gray and I will be coaching and stressing,” Kramer said. “So much of our sport is about being mentally ready to compete. I want my wrestlers to feel and think they already won before stepping on the mat.”

“We don’t have enough depth to work at the intensity I’d like to; we need more wrestlers,” Gray said.

Must see match

Away at Nashoba on January 31 at 11:00 am

“Nashoba is our biggest rival in the league and it’s always a competitive match,” Clark said.

“Nashoba is always tough and this year they look especially good,” Gray said. “If there is a team which can take the league championship from us, it will be them.”
