Revisiting ’90s style icons
November 30, 2015
The ‘90s have found their way into the 21st century. Travel back in time a few years and start donning these nostalgic trends. Here are some of my favorite style icons of the ‘90s who wore it best:
- Rachel Green: Watch one episode of Friends and you’ll be wishing you could take a peek into Rachel’s closet. From overalls to plaid skirt-and-knee-socks combo, the only mishap Rachel Green ever made, in my opinion, was marrying Ross.
- Winona Ryder: This actress always wore looks that were unique to herself. Soon enough, the tomboy-ish and all-black red carpet ensembles became a signature look. No wonder she caught the attention of Johnny Depp. You could always catch Winona effortlessly crushing hearts in a tee and pair of jeans.
- Britney Spears: As a result of Spears’s revolutionary work in pop music, she opened a new world of fashion. The “schoolgirl” look from the “…Baby One More Time” music video is inspired by her signature style. Add a twist to the plaid skirt by wearing it with another basic pattern on top.
- Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love: Even if you don’t know a single Nirvana song, you can still pull off the effortless, grunge style. Love, with her dark lips and bedhead hair, matched with husband Cobain, father of the flannel, were a more influential couple than the Clintons in the 90s. Destroyed band tees and oversized denim were classic signatures of the 90s.
- Cher from Clueless: When I think of Clueless, I think of that yellow plaid ensemble Cher busted out via computer-closet. I remember being a child and worshipping her quirky, fun outfits that made Cher my all-time favorite fashion icon. Summon that classic Cher sass and don’t be afraid to wear whatever you want, from a bubblegum pink fuzzy sweater to all-plaid outfit.
