The Christmas spirit is approaching, and Icelandic-Chinese singer Laufey has delivered with her new album “A Very Laufey Holiday,” the 2025 version. This breathtaking collection features covers of some of the most popular Christmas songs as well as an original composition. 

Laufey is known for her talented vocals and jazz-pop style of music that can be enjoyed by many. This talent and style, combined with some of society’s favorite classic Christmas songs, adds the final tree topper needed for this upcoming holiday season.

“Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town” 

We all know and love it. This classic Christmas song written by lyricist Haven Gillespie and composed by J. Fred Coots contains the entirety of that Christmas feeling bundled into one timeless hit. Laufey’s cover of this song is enchanting. Her vocals and jazz-pop style shine through, leaving listeners with a fun and upbeat version of the original song. Her quirky little additions to the song, including her “ho-ho-ho” at the beginning to show her personality, make the rendition a more enjoyable listening experience than the typical cover. 

“Santa Baby” 

This cover, released in her 2024 version of the album “A Very Laufey Holiday,” displays Laufey’s personality without error. The original song, written and composed by Joan Javits and Philip Springer has always been a special part of the holiday season. Laufey’s cover took the original song and gave it a refreshed joyful feeling with her silly little vocal additions, like how she splits up the words “Santa Baby” in the song’s intro, and fun instrumentals to add to the cover.

“Winter Wonderland” 

 This song has always been a Christmas classic, seen in many iconic Christmas films like “The Polar Express” or “Elf.” Written in 1934 by Felix Bernard and lyricist Richard Bernhard Smith, Laufey’s cover of this classic holiday song truly lived up to the modern saying, “ate and left no crumbs behind,” delivering a performance that felt fresh and impressive. Although this song was not my personal favorite on the album, it still achieved the ideal Christmas feel that was sought after. The song brought a vintage feel to it while still featuring impressive vocals from Laufey that remain fully enjoyable throughout. 

“Christmas Magic” 

There’s a reason why this is my personal favorite on the album. This original from Laufey wraps the feelings of hot cocoa at the fireplace during a snowstorm in Christmas tree lighting in such a way that makes the song a jazzy holiday experience that isn’t forgettable. The instrumentals, the vocals and mood – everything about this song – are meticulously thought out in a way that gets anyone who listens to it into a full holiday mood, an impressive touch by Laufey as the fourth and middle song of the album.

“Christmas Dreaming”

 Although Laufey includes some other incredible covers in this album, this song stands out among the rest because of its true Christmas spirit and vibe that flow together so well. Written by Irving Gordon and Lester Lee, Laufey did this song justice in the most appealing way possible. Her stunning vocal range, as seen in this cover, left me with it on repeat. 

“The Christmas Waltz” 

This slow song, originally written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne for Frank Sinatra, includes a gorgeous Christmas feeling that is represented beautifully in Laufey’s cover. The best instrumentals on this album easily go to this song. Another sweet addition to the song’s experience altogether was the addition of the Reykjavik Children’s Choir, who are also seen contributing in many of Laufey’s other songs. It adds a sentimental touch to those who noticed, given that Laufey was born and raised in Reykjavík, Iceland. 

“Love to Keep Me Warm” 

The original song, “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm,” written and composed by Irving Berlin, was a wonderful song for Laufey to cover to wrap up her eccentric holiday album. This cover is a duet with music artist dodie and has a soft cheerful attitude throughout the song’s entirety. 

Even though the album was released before Thanksgiving, that does not stop Laufey from fulfilling the Christmas spirit for her fans. This Christmas album is a beautiful way of tying the holiday season together, as well as leaving her fans with a nice surprise after she concluded her “A Matter of Time” tour in October with an unreleased cover of “Jingle Bells,” a hint to her fans as to what was to come in the coming days.
