The girls’ track team twelfth in the state championship, with senior Arianna Gentile placing fifth in the 55m dash, sophomore Tanvi Mehta placing seventh in the 600m and Gentile, Mehta, freshman Jojo Cesar and senior Julia Barcelos-Penteado placing fifth in the 4x400m relay. Gentile shared about the team’s camaraderie and their individual successes.
How was the season overall?
“I feel like this year, we’ve been doing a lot of individual stuff, that’s what we’ve been working at since our teams haven’t had depth. We’ve been trying to do individual stuff, and that’s really worked out for us because we’ve had a lot of good results individually, and I think that’s also a good thing. A lot of us are just doing good, and when we post online, it’s a bunch of relay stuff, but people individually have been getting PRs ([personal records] on their own.”
Who were some of your key runners?
“[Junior] Jill Belniak, [sophomore] Tanvi Mehta, [senior] Maggie Haven and [junior] Izzie Gaskamp have been doing good this season.”
What’s your team dynamic?
“We’re just really supportive and always cheering on other people that succeed. Every meet everybody’s on the sidelines cheering for others racing, everybody knows, ‘This person’s up next,’ so we’re trying to make sure that we can be there to support them wherever they are.”
