With great food, good service, and a casual atmosphere, it’s no wonder Harry’s Restaurant has stayed popular since its establishment in 1946. Right on route 9 in Westborough, the restaurant is easy to get to and open seven days a week from as early as seven am to as late as one am for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

The coziness, vinyl decor, booths, and counter that you can see upon entering creates a diner-like feel. Lining the walls are food cartoon paintings and a mural of the original restaurant. Although it is a small space and there are often many customers ranging from elderly regulars to families to high school students, the service is friendly, quick and makes for little to no wait time, in my experience.

Now, the worst part about Harry’s: making a decision. The menu is pages of varied, American-style options (salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, pastas, seafood, among other things) and has something for everyone; they even serve breakfast all day. While you really can’t go wrong at Harry’s, choosing just one meal is no easy task. But, one thing’s for sure: the cheese fries are a must.

Cheese and french fries are undoubtedly a great combination and Harry’s makes it even better. Their thick, golden fries are covered in the perfect amount of creamy homemade cheese sauce for a rich, but balanced flavor. The small order is certainly filling enough to make a (not-so-well-balanced) meal and for less than six dollars.

But, if sides for a meal aren’t your thing or you want a main course as well, there are plenty of options like the famous fried clams. The clams are a bit pricier, but proves to be worth it for the large portions and the high quality. They are fresh, especially compared to other seafood places in central Massachusetts, and cooked perfectly – not chewy or mushy.

The most unique and telling thing about Harry’s, however, is the local fame it has amassed and the customers who continue to go to Harry’s meal after meal. Practically every time I go, there is at least one customer who is clearly a regular, conversing and friendly with the staff. It has been open for over sixty years and been a part of Westborough and the surrounding towns ever since and for good reason.
