The cheer team, led by captains senior Julianna Craver and juniors Clarissa Truman and Abby Keats, successfully made it to the regionals competition after a season of cheering on the football team and hyping up the student section. Additionally, they worked to establish respect and teamwork over the course of the season. Craver detailed the triumphs that accompanied this journey.
How was the season overall?
“It started off really, really strong, and then social media dramas and all that stuff kind of fed into it; we were really struggling. But, we’re getting ourselves back on track.”
What was one highlight from the season?
“One highlight was probably our first competition. It was really fun, and it was on Halloweekend so we had a lot of fun together and we really grew as a team.”
What is your team dynamic like?
“We have coaches on top and then we have captains below, but we gave our underclass a bit of a voice this year and a lot more throughout the season, and we just really heard opinions of how to change what happened in the past and see how we can include everyone. I know in the past, it was very coaches and captains [centered], but we’re really opening it up to opinions from everyone and using voting systems.”
Who were some of the key team members?
“My stunt group, just because we have competed as a point stunt group, and last competition we were the only stunt group competing because one of our other flyers was injured with a bad ankle sprain. Our main stunt group is [freshman] Riley Waden, [sophomore] Taylor Ferlo and [sophomore] Ella Mowry and in our front spot [junior] Francis Edelman. It really was a power stunt group, and it worked really well.”
Is there anything else you would like to add?
“We’re really looking forward to making a comeback during the winter season and just proving ourselves once again.”
