With a 7-9-2 regular season record, the girls’ soccer team was led by senior captains Dylan Lochhead, Mary Cate Megan and Katie Richmond. Lochhead reflected on the season as a whole.
How was the season overall?
“It was good. Our team definitely grew a lot closer this year. For me, it was definitely rough because I was injured for everything except for four games, so that was not ideal. But we won some, we lost some, but we had fun the whole time, so that’s all that matters.”
What was a highlight of the regular season?
“I’d say a highlight of the season was probably senior night just because that was the game where everyone came prepared and the energy was really high throughout. Everybody really tried their best and we got a result so the win felt great for everyone.”
Who are some of your key players?
“In the back, Ella Timmins and Caity O’Hearn, the center backs. Both did such a great job blocking so many opportunities; they really held the fort down back there. In the midfield, Liv Demember did a great job all season connecting passes. And then the other two captains [seniors Mary-Cate Megan] and Katie [Richmond] both did a great job all season creating opportunities up top and connecting well.”
What was the most challenging part of the season?
“It was definitely challenging having to adapt after losing players and getting a new coach this year. It was just a big change all around.”
What is your team dynamic like?
“We kind of just had a lot of fun all the time. On all our bus rides, the energy was super high. During practices, we always joked around and had fun but when the time came down to it, we got done what we needed to. We kind of just put our heart into the game.”
What is coming up for the team next year?
“Obviously every year it changes with new players, but I’m hopeful that just like the torch was passed down to me and the other captains…I know that other people will step up and when there are gaps, there’s always room for people to fill in. People are going to do what’s needed for the team to continue, to go on and hold up the team.”
