Senior captains Maggie Haven, Karma Bebawy, Emmy Beauchesne and Nikita Nayar led the girls’ cross-country team to a regular season record of 2-2. Nayar shared insights on the team’s rebuilding season.
How was the season overall?
“It was pretty good. Last year we went undefeated, so coming from that this year was a little scary. We had a lot of underclassmen step up too.”
What has been a highlight of the season?
“Probably the Shrewsbury dual meet because a lot of people ran great PRs [personal records]. A girl dropped ten minutes in the 5K, so that was pretty important.”
Who are some of your key players?
“Our first key member is [sophomore] Tanvi Mehta. She really stepped up to the plate this year. Last year, she was amazing, and this year she is even better. I think another valuable member is sophomore Colleen Reed. She came out of nowhere this year, really improving her times, and made it onto varsity.”
What was the most challenging part of the season?
“Probably coming from being undefeated last year and our top players last year were seniors, so they all graduated. This year we had a lot of new freshmen and sophomores, but they all stepped up to the plate and we were able to get a really good underclassmen-heavy team.”
What is your team dynamic like?
“I think our team dynamic is really cohesive. We all get along. We all know the pain of running through a 5K, so everyone is really friendly and supportive.”
