After a 10-3-3 regular season, the boys’ soccer team clinched a CMASS Championship with a win against Leominster and ended their postseason run with a loss in the first round of playoffs to Franklin. Led by senior captains Rowan Miller, Zachary Ruthfield and Max Oelkers, Miller highlights the team’s achievement throughout the season.
How was the season overall?
“Our season was good. We started off a little rough with a couple of upsets. Especially [our loss to] Nipmuc was bad for our morale. Since then we have definitely made improvements and got on the right track.”
What was a highlight of the regular season?
“The highlight of our season was our win against Leominster. We beat them 5-0 after losing to them a few weeks prior.”
Who are some of your key players?
“[Senior] Caden Hansen is definitely one of our key players, he puts the ball in the back of the net. [Senior] Zach Ruthfield and Hansen work very well together on the field. [Senior] Max Oelkers is a key player in the back and is an important support player for us.”
What is your team dynamic like?
“We are a very offensive team. No one wants to mess with our front five.”
What is coming up for the team next year?
“Next year may be a struggle because we will be losing a lot of people. I am confident that a lot of the players we have now will be able to step up and be great next year.”
How was your post season? What contributed to your CMASS championship victory?
“Our work ethic definitely contributed to the win, especially during practice. We came in with the mindset that it would be hard but we were willing to work and I believe that is why we came out on top.”
