“Back To School Movie Night” will be hosted by Student Council this Saturday, Sept. 14.
The event, previously scheduled for Sept. 7, is an outdoor screening of Disney’s “Moana” beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets will cost three dollars for youth and five dollars for adults, with concessions for sale. Movie Night ran for the first time during the summer of 2022 and is making its return to the Algonquin outdoor facilities.
“We didn’t do [Movie Night] last summer because it wasn’t a priority to us, but this summer the student council wanted to bring it back,” senior class representative Amelia Sinclair said.
Sinclair is excited to watch the event come together, especially after scheduling struggles forced its postponement by a week to this Saturday Sept. 14. The movie choice is purposeful, hoping to draw interest off of the hype of Disney’s “Moana 2” releasing later this fall.
“We thought it would be fun to do a “Moana” theme because it’s both family friendly and fun for high schoolers to go to,” Sinclair said. “We were hoping it would be pretty versatile.”
The opportunity for high school students to connect is driving not only the movie choice, but also Sinclair’s enthusiasm for the event.
“I’m excited to see the community all turn out,” Sinclair said. “Gonkplex is still pretty new and this is a great opportunity for families and community members to come see the facilities and have a fun night out.”
