Senior Ula Bazikas high jumps over the bar against Wachusett and Shepherd Hill during their meet on May 14.

Led by senior captains Kate Ditullio, Mackenzie Clark, Sheila Purcell, Austeja Bazikas, Olivia LaBelle and junior captain Betsy Bertonazzi, the girls’ outdoor track team had a strong season, finishing 2nd in the Division II state meet. The team also set school records in the 4×800, 4×100 and in the 100 hurdles by LaBelle. Ditullio reflects on the season’s successes.

How is the season going overall?

“It’s been really good as a team with keeping up and working our hardest, even through challenges.”

What was your personal highlight of the season?

“Districts because the team competed really well as a team, and we all supported each other, and it was just a really fun meet to be at.”

Who are some of the key/standout runners on the team right now?

“Definitely [senior] Olivia LaBelle. She has been doing really well in the hurdle races as well as pole vaulting, and then [junior] Ariana Gentile and [senior] Audrey Helwig are both sprinters who have been doing really well this season.”

What was the most challenging part of the season?

“Getting meets in [to the schedule] like we have to have a tri-meet today [5/14] and we have had to reschedule multiple meets in the past.”

What was your team dynamic like?

“Everyone is always supporting each other, especially in the [meet] ending events like the 4×4. Everyone surrounds the track which is always a really fun time.”
