After 25 dedicated years at Algonquin, Assistant Principal Cathleen Carmignani prepares for her new position as the Northborough-Southborough Director of Instructional Technology and Science.
Carmignani has worked at many levels within the community, including serving as Math Department Chair and her role as an assistant principal since 2019. In her new position, her duties will include reviewing science, digital literacy and computer science curriculums for grades K-12.
“It’s exciting for me because it kind of blends a lot of what I did as a teacher and takes me back to my roots in math and science,” Carmignani said.
Carmignani has aspirations for her new position, especially regarding individuals’ understanding of different grade’s curriculum requirements.
“Probably helping teachers and parents and our students understand what they need to know at each grade level would be really one of my main goals,” Carmignani said. “And making sure that we can implement or just really look at a new science curriculum and see where our direction in the science is going to go.”
As Carmignani looks forward to her new role, she reflects on her time at Algonquin.
“I’m going to miss a lot of the staff,” Carmignani said. “I’ll miss seeing students day to day and just being there in their lives all the time.”
Superintendent Gregory Martineau praised Carmignani’s commitment to students in an email to the community announcing the selection of Walpole High School administrator Matthew Gitkind as the new assistant principal.
“Ms. Carmignani demonstrated strong leadership and commitment to student-centered learning throughout the hiring process,” Martineau said in an email to the community.
As Carmignani enters her last few weeks working at Algonquin, she expresses gratitude for its community.
“I’d love to thank the students who have come up and wished me well and really let them know that I’m still going to be around, so if they need something, they can still reach out to me,” Carmignani said.
