Are you ever feeling bored with your friends and feel like there is nothing to do? These are the top 5 games to burn time with your buddies over the weekends.
For those of you new to gaming:
Sandbox = Game where you are not restricted to a certain goal and have the freedom to modify the environment.
Modders = someone who modifies the game
Tmodloader = An app that allows the user to install modifications (mods) to the game Terraria
AFK = Away from keyboard
Survival = expiration, crafting, and resource management
#5: GTA Online
GTA Online is an older game, released in 2013 by Rockstar. The game is still being updated to this day and is considered one of the greatest sandboxes, featuring an active player base teaming up to perform heists, race and collect vehicles. The greatest downside of the game is the lack of maintenance and servers with modders overrunning many of the peer-to-peer sessions. I recommend finding a few friends and playing in a friends-only session to avoid an attack on your computer.
#4: Left4Dead2
At number 4, L4D2 is another classic coming from Valve in 2009. This is a zombie shooter where the player must move from one safehouse to another while fending off endless hordes of zombies. The game keeps the player on their toes by sending a wave to attack if they move too slowly, or if the player made a mistake by setting off a car alarm in their haste. Unique zombie variants and the use of AI to keep the game running if a player goes AFK sets L4D2 apart from other games. L4D2 has a large modding community, so if the game gets repetitive you can always turn from killing zombies to Teletubbies or Zoidbergs.
#3: Halo Master Chief Collection
The Halo MCC is one of the best video game collections there is, including Halo 1 through 4 along with Halo ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers) and Reach. Each of these games has its own engaging story within a futuristic sci-fi setting, battling through space on different planets or huge structures called “halos” and depending on the game, you can play with up to 4 players. Each game also comes with a multiplayer mode, either clashing your team with another in Team Deathmatch or working together to fend off waves of enemies in Firefight mode.
#2: Terraria
Terraria, a 2D sandbox with survival elements, takes the number 2 spot on this list. Terraria allows for a maximum of 8 players in a fun team adventure to combat bosses and world corruption. The game developer Re-Logic crafted the game to be played over and over, either to refight a boss for a certain item or creating an entirely new world. They also made tModLoader, a modding service available for download for easy access to all endless possibilities through mods created by the community. Terraria has remained relevant since its initial release in 2011, with a new update coming this year along with another cross-platform update.
#1: Minecraft
This classic sandbox game has come a long way since its launch in 2011 to being the most-sold game to this day. There are two versions of this game, Bedrock and Java. Bedrock is better for the multiplayer experience as it is better optimized for several players, but the Java edition contains the possibility for more creativity and is the preferred version for most players. There are several modes, such as survival mode, where you can go on epic adventures to fight the ender dragon or be in creative mode to do anything limited only to your imagination.
