The girls’ volleyball regular season ended with a record of 17-4, driven by senior captains Caroline Macaulay and Sophie Hjerpe. Macaulay and Hjerpe revisit their successes from the regular season as the team enters the MIAA Division II playoffs ranked second. Their first playoff game will be Nov. 3 against Masconomet Regional High School at 5 p.m. in the A gym.
How is the season going overall?
“It’s been going really well,” Macaulay said. “We’ve kept a really good record and we haven’t had any team drama.”
What was the highlight of this season so far?
“Beating Shrewsbury [on Sept. 26] was definitely a highlight because we are a little bit of rivals,” Hjerpe said.
“Senior night was also really fun and was well put together,” Macaulay said.
Who are some of your key players and what players especially stepped up this season?
“I think [senior] Cam Arcona has definitely stepped up this season,” Macaulay said. “Especially running a 5-1 [rotation] as the only setter, it’s a lot of pressure and they really did well under that pressure.”
“I don’t think we have one specific person who stepped up,” Hjerpe said. “I think everyone worked hard this season; we all work very well together and we couldn’t do it without each other.”
What does your team dynamic look like and how do you work together?
“We have a very good [team] dynamic,” Hjerpe said.
“We only lost two seniors last year, so this season we have had a lot of team chemistry,” Macaulay said. “We’re all good friends outside of volleyball.”
Which team was the most challenging to play this season?
“Westborough was a very hard team, [they have] very good players. It was a very tough match.” Macaulay said.
