The boys’ indoor track season ended with a record of 1-9, led by senior captains Gavin Moran, Mason Drew, David Burmeister and Joseph Folsom. Moran recounts the team’s successes from this past season.

How was the season overall? What worked for your team and what did not work?

“I’d say the season was pretty good overall. Individually, there was a lot of progress that people saw. We do have a fairly young team; we don’t have too many seniors, it’s basically all juniors, sophomores [and] freshmen. Especially since last year, they’ve made a lot of progress.”

What is your team dynamic like and how do you work together?

“Even though it’s an individual sport, there’s a very strong team spirit we have. Everyone’s pretty much friends with everyone. It’s very fun to go to practice and to the meets, because everyone’s supporting each other. Even though we’re kind of competing against each other, in a way we’re competing with each other, pushing each other to do better.”

What was the most challenging part of this season?

“The first challenge we had was a lot of changes from last year. We had a lot of new coaching staff, so dealing with that change was a little difficult at first, but we got to know the new coaches and they’ve done a great job, so we settled in very quickly with that.”

What was a highlight of this season for the team?

“I’d say the biggest one for the whole team was our league meet. Though we didn’t place as a team, we didn’t win the league meet or anything, almost everyone went home with medals and we had one team place as League All-Stars, our 4×200 relay team.”

What players especially stepped up this season and how?

“It’s hard to say them all. There’s not really specific people; what I really noticed was the whole junior class on the team. They really took the sport much more seriously this year and really stepped up. They’ve become better leaders so I think the team is in good hands for next year.”

What is coming up for the team and what do you think next season will look like?

“For the upcoming spring season, I think we’re in a very good position. We gave all our opponents a tough fight at every single meet this indoor season, and we’ve just kept getting better. I think it puts us in a good position for next season. We’re going to keep on training well, [and] train outside. We’re in the gym during the indoor season so that kind of makes training more difficult, [while] other schools have indoor tracks.”
