Student Council brings toys to the community

The annual Student Council toy drive for children in need will be held  from December 2nd to December 19.

The Student Council has been holding the toy drive for many years to help bring gifts to disadvantaged children for the Christmas season. Once the toys are collected and sent to various charities/organizations, they are then distributed to the children who need them.

“We have done this so long and so well over the last couple of years.  These charities rely on us. Kids are going shopping anyways, they could probably go without one gift if they could brighten someone’s day,” history teacher and Student Council advisor John Barry said.

These donations help many have a happier holiday.

“These little kids aren’t getting Christmas presents unless we bring them in,” Student Council president senior Colleen Barry said.

Some of the organizations that are helping out with this year’s toy drive are: Youthville House in Worcester, The Bridge of Central Massachusetts, Northborough Youth and Family Services, and Southborough Youth and Family Services.

Students should plan on buying toys for toddlers and adolescents.

“Kids can easily find out what gift to buy because we put gifts on a holiday tree that we keep in the cafeteria.  Kids can go up to the tree and pull off a mitten and the name of the toy is written on the mitten,“ Barry said.

Custodian John Souza maintains the toy drive tree.

“I like when the tree is full of notes and the next second the notes are all gone,” Souza said.
