Volleyball plays as team through playoffs
December 7, 2014
The girls’ volleyball team displayed feats of skill and teamwork throughout the season, with a record of 14-7, but unfortunately was unable to make it past Natick in the quarterfinals.
The team did not play individually; it was a group effort.
“We came together as a team,” senior Captain Emily Carens said.
The T-Hawks played a strong season.
“It was great, [but] it was disappointing that they lost against Natick. They should be very proud of themselves,” assistant coach and English teacher Lindsay Coppens said.
When the team played against Natick, they had some trouble adjusting to their style of play.
“[We] weren’t exactly sure of how to play on the court. If we had stuck to what we were used to and only tried something new if necessary, we would have been able to win that game,” senior captain Nicole Federici said.
The team has its strengths, but there are some areas that could be improved on.
“We can always improve our defense and staying on our toes,” Carens said.
Volleyball is not a sport that can be a one-man show.
“You have to play as a team to be successful,” Coppens said.
Volleyball can also demand abilities from the mental, and physical areas.
“You have to pound the ball at them,” Coppens said.
While players use their physical abilities to play, they also need to think things through to figure everything out.
“It’s a very mental sport,” Carens said.
