This week on “The Voice” was the fourth round of live performances. The Top 10 contestants competed on Monday for a spot in the Top 8. On Tuesday, the seven contestants with the most votes automatically advanced to the Semifinals, and the remaining three competed for the final spot.

This week was also “challenge week,” in which each contestant sang a song outside their usual genre and comfort zone.

Our Top Five

1. On Team Kelly Clarkson, Hailey Mia sang the country song “Peter Pan” by Kelsea Ballerini. Mia looked like a superstar on stage, and was able to sustain many long and high notes with precision. She continues to push her vocal range and improve every week, which makes her such a fascinating contestant to watch.

2. Also on Team Clarkson, Girl Named Tom performed “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay. Clarkson’s song choice really took challenge week to another level, as it was a powerful anthem and so unlike the calm songs Girl Named Tom had previously performed. However, Girl Named Tom stepped up to the challenge, and the result was a fun, powerful performance with the trio working the stage.

3. Jim and Sasha from Team Ariana Grande sang “Stay” by Rihanna and Mikky Ekko. Though we can see emotion in all of their performances, their emotions were strongest in this performance. We could really hear the heartbreak in their voices, and their harmonies were beautiful. After winning the Instant Save last week, they proved they still deserve to be here.

4. Joshua Vacanti representing Team John Legend performed “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. His arrangement of the song really showcased his vocals, and the performance was a mix of his classic broadway-touch with a splash of soul. His vibrato and control is amazing, and he never disappoints.

5. Wendy Moten from Team Blake Shelton sang “Jolene” by Dolly Parton. Her rendition left listeners in a trance as she showed the more mellow and intimate side of her voice. Since the song itself is pretty boring, Moten’s control and tone really made the performance. Last week, she suffered a pretty hard fall while leaving the stage, which resulted in her needing an arm cast. However, she rocked the cast, bedazzling it so it matched her outfit this week.

Guest Performances

Rock band Måneskin was the first guest performer, performing on Monday between the contestant performances. The band sang a medley of their viral song “Beggin” and their new song “Mammamia.”

On Tuesday, The Voice’s season 19 winner Carter Rubin, who was on former Coach Gwen Stefani’s team, returned to sing his new song, “Horoscope,” in between the results. Later, guest performer Mae Muller performed her hit song, “Better Days.”

Instant Save & Results

The three contestants with the least votes this week were Holly Forbes, Jershika Maple and Jeremy Rosado. We were really surprised to see Maple in the bottom three, as she has always been (and still is) one of our favorites. Thankfully, Maple won the Instant Save singing “What is Love” by Empire Cast and V. Bozeman. Forbes sang “Because of You” by Clarkson, but she was sick during her performance, hence all of the flat notes and missed runs. Jeremy Rosado sang Rascal Flatts’ “What Hurt Most,” and although he did a good job, we felt as though this wasn’t a good song choice for an Instant Save performance.
