Whether baseball, basketball or football, junior Andrew Roberts shares his passion for sports through Boston Sports Mania, the successful blog he started seven years ago.

Roberts fell in love with sports, especially Boston teams, at a young age and published his first post on March 30, 2014. Seven years later, Roberts has received media coverage from WCVB’s “A+ Report,” a segment by Boston’s ABC affiliate and over 11,000 page visits in a single year. While Roberts grew his writing techniques through middle and high school, the blogs have evolved a long way into professionally written segments.

“When I first started making my blogs, it was mainly lists and power rankings,” Roberts said. “Now, I focus more on in-depth articles such as free agent predictions and current topics.”

Sports are a big part of Roberts’s life and have granted him the opportunity to meet and connect with influential people.

“I have a partnership with the Doug Flutie Foundation [an organization that helps people and families affected by autism] for a few years now,” Roberts said. “I have done many charity events such as creating a Fantasy Football League to raise money.”

For the seven year anniversary of Roberts’ blog, he has designed and released apparel with 100% of the profits going to the Doug Flutie Foundation for Autism.

“It’s important to me to give back to the foundation because they have contributed to my success,” Roberts said.

As Roberts nears the end of his high school career, the next step in his journey is to gain admittance into a top sports-journalism program to further educate himself on what it takes to be successful in one of the most competitive industries in the world.
