SENIOR ATHLETE REFLECTION: Girls’ golf seniors remember their seasons
May 6, 2020
This interview was done remotely due to COVID-19 precautions.
Because of the cancellation of the 2020 spring sports season, senior athletes reflected on the best moments from their time playing their sport at Algonquin.
Liza Armstrong:
What are you most proud of from your time playing golf at Algonquin?
“I’m most proud of winning districts last year. It’s the first time that the team has even won that title. I remember it being a pretty crappy weather day, it was pouring for all 18 holes and it was pretty cold for late May. But even with that, it was I believe my best score for my three years on the team.”
What will you miss most from playing golf at Algonquin?
“I think I’ll miss being able to play golf at a competitive yet relaxed level. Being placed where I was on the team my matches were important, but it wasn’t so bad that me and my opponent would not talk to each other for the whole round. Also because you typically play the same girls on each team you do develop a sort of friendship with them. I feel that there aren’t many sports where that sort of thing happens between you and your opponent.”
What is your favorite memory of golf at Algonquin?
“My favorite memory of golf is the bus rides back after we won a tough match. Since there aren’t that many girls golf teams in the states, many of our league matches are close to if not over an hour away, and then we have out-of-league matches that are typically the same distance. When we would win a match that we didn’t expect to, we would be excited the whole way home (even if it was extremely late).”
Grace Tang:
What are you most proud of from your time playing golf at Algonquin?
“Most proud of our accomplishments! Winning Districts last year certainly placed the cherry on top!”
What will you miss most from playing golf at Algonquin?
“The team (including our fellow teammates from Westborough)”
What is your favorite memory of golf at Algonquin?
“Coach yelling at me to get waterproof golf shoes every day until the end of freshman year.”
