Josh Ufland: King of the Nerds?

Senior Josh Ufland is known for his grades, but many of his peers wrongly believe that because he spends so much time doing schoolwork, he does not have time for fun.

Ufland is currently ranked number one in the class of 2014 and has gotten an A in every single class he has ever taken, except for a lone A- which he received as a sophomore in AP US History.

“On a typical school night, I only spend about three hours doing school work,”  Ufland said.

While that may seem like a lot, that still leaves many hours of free time that Ufland takes full advantage of.

“I love to play basketball. I don’t care who it’s with. I play in a rec league on the weekends and also play pickup with my friends. Also, I love running, whether it be competitive or by myself,” Ufland said.

Ufland also believes that just because he gets straight A’s, that people may have the wrong idea about him.

“The biggest misconception that people have about me is that all I do is think and talk about schoolwork.  I guarantee you that on a day where North Carolina plays Duke in basketball that is all I will be talking about,” Ufland said.

While Ufland’s schedule is packed with five AP classes, he still has room for some fun.

“The easiest class I have ever taken was project adventure sophomore year.  Mr. Mawson truly embodied his alter ego of Mr. Awesome,” Ufland said.

Not only is Ufland one of the smartest kids in the senior class, but he also has plenty of time for fun.
