Senior Colby Chase and junior Tucker Fruhan have collectively accumulated over 100,000 social media followers through their car-spotting Instagram accounts, which share their fascination for cars.
A car spotter is someone who photographs or records rare, vintage or expensive cars. Although modern day social media car spotting is rather recent, car spotting can be traced back to the late 1940s.
Chase and Fruhan began their own instagram accounts @tuckspots and @colby_cars within the last two years, following in the footsteps of Fruhan’s older brother, Jack, who started his own car spotting account in 2022.
“[Jack] helped me with ideas in the beginning, not directly collaborating, but he helped me with concepts,” Fruhan said.
With support from Jack, Chase and Fruhan slowly built their accounts and have amassed a collective 120,000 followers on Instagram. They attribute the success of their accounts to their high-quality videos and the community they have built.
“High quality content and engaging with the community [makes the accounts successful],” Chase said.
Chase and Fruhan don’t just car spot for their social media; they also do it for the enjoyment of the hobby and the thrill of seeing a rare car in front of them.
“Seeing cool cars and sometimes being able to drive them [is what we enjoy most about car spotting],” Fruhan said.
Chase and Fruhan both prefer one car brand the most. Chase’s favorite car is the Lamborghini STO while Fruhan’s is the Lamborghini SVJ.
They hope to inspire people to begin their own social media account the same way they were when they first began car spotting.
“It’s an inspiration, what we are trying to accomplish,” Chase said.
After building their followings, Chase and Fruhan have collaborated with Jack to create their own business. Chase, Fruhan and Jack co-founded FameFormulaCoaching, a coaching service aimed to help people gain a following with their own social media.
“Auto companies and businesses will come to us and ask us [to] teach [them],’’ Chase said.
Chase and Fruhan now plan to expand their business, explore new ideas and collaborate with more people.
“One hundred percent [we’ll continue to grow in the future],” Fruhan said. “[We plan on] reaching out to people and running paid ads.”
