Freshman Natalie Sunray’s music shines

Freshman Natalie Sunray had always to a bold interest in the guitar and was not hesitant to talk about her playing this fine instrument.

Sunray said that she “wanted to play since I was just a little girl and now I play.”

She is currently taking lessons in hope to sustain this talent throughout her life.

“About a year and a half ago is when I really started playing. I remember learning about notes and frets [which are strips of metal on the neck of the guitar] which was really hard. My instructor was also not that good at teaching it,” Sunray said.

Sunray had pointed out that she usually, if not always, plays an acoustic guitar since that is the only type she owns. But she dreams having more than just one type of guitar.

“I remember wanting this green electric guitar and a really sleek acoustic one where there were silvery dolphins on it.” Sunray said.

For Sunray, cords are the hardest part of her lessons.

“For cords you have to push down several frets which can be really aggravating, since its hard to get a grip on the first few tries; it’s a lot to memorize,” Sunray said.

Sunray also remarked that the easiest part of her lessons are the  “ notes because for the notes you can press only one fret which result in a note making it less repetitive, less challenging, and more easy to learn.”

Although she loves playing the guitar, Sunray does not consider a possible future profession.

“My parents and I sort of had a future plan for me and we didn’t really think that a guitar was really a good job rather than just a fun hobby.” Sunray said.
